19 km race – Technical Description
The 19 km race is the ATC’s real challenge. It includes one of the most ancient footpaths on Amorgos, and is perhaps the only route that shows you the full extent of the island’s beauty. The race’s iconic start-line is at the foot of the historic monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa; what’s more, the monastery bells ring out as the runners begin their race, sending out a blessing to help them on their way.
This moving moment sets the stage for a total ascent of 850 metres, consisting of 80% traditional footpaths, 10% paved village streets, 7% dirt tracks and 3% asphalt. After the 12th kilometre, the route joins the trail of the ATC’s smaller race.
The finish line is in front of the Amorgos Diving Center, in Aegiali Bay.
Participants in the 19-km race must be aware of the participation conditions and the safety rules established by the Organizer, and must follow the Technical Director’s instructions.
* The aid stations will provide sweet and savoury snacks, fruit, isotonic drinks and bottled water.
** Water bottles are mandatory for this race.
Start/Finish line: Start line: the parking area outside Chozoviotissa Monastery. Finish line: Aegiali beach.
Start time: 9.15 a.m.
